Statista predicts that revenue in the global cheese market will amount to US$199 billion in 2020. The market is expected to grow annually by 3.1% (CAGR 2021-2023), with a revenue growth of 5.3% in 2020.


The top 5 economies predicted to generate the most revenue in the cheese market are the United States, Russia, France, Germany and Turkey. Most revenue is generated in the US, with a market volume of US$55 billion in 2019.


In the fresh cheese segment, the leading importers in 2017 were Italy, the United Kingdom and Germany.




In the processed cheese segment, the top three leading importers in 2017 were also the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy.




According to World's Top Exports (WTEx), European countries accounted for the highest dollar worth of imported cheese in 2017, with purchases valued at $20.6 billion or 68.7% of the global total. In second place were Asian importers at 17.1% while 6.7% of cheese imported worldwide was delivered to North America. Smaller percentages belong to Latin America excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean (3.2%), Oceania (2.2%) then Africa (2%).
